Galatasaray Sports Club has opened up its new stadium "Turk Telekom Arena" at date of 15th of January 2011. Turk Telekom Arena has been designed by a consortium including German origined ASP (Arat-Siegel-Partner); mechanical and electrical engineering has been designed by Obermeyer and static engineering by SBP. All three design offices, well known specialists in their fields with significant former experience in stadium design, have been coordinated by Architect Mete Arat. The main contractor of the Project has been Varyap-Uzunlar consortium and the subcontractor for the huge steel roofing frame has been Temsan Corporation.
Turk Telekom Arena, one of the biggest sport complexes in Turkey is counted a globally major stadium with its capacity of 52650 people. The sports complex has a base area of 82.000 m2. The building has elliptic shape and has 190 meter and 228 meters spans in two different axes.
Turk Telekom Arena construction commenced in December 2008 and shell structure has been completed in April 2010 with simultaneous commencement of 40.000 m2 roofing installation where Almetsan's innovative 55/40 trapezoidal sheets with its distinctive architectural features were used. 55/840 trapezoidal sheets have been preferred for their aesthetical outlook and high static performance in the stadium's long roof spans and heavy wind load exposed to roof.
